Sercos international holds twice-yearly Sercos III Plug Fests at the Sercos Competence Center at ISW, University of Stuttgart. The plug fests are free of charge to any manufacturer of Sercos III control systems, servo drives, I/O systems and other peripheral devices. The staff of the testing laboratory is present with the Sercos III slave conformizer.
Interoperability tests are performed between each present master and slave and between masters and multiple slaves to verify implementation of Sercos III master and slave devices to ensure the best possible compliance of the different products. Various features, such as ring break detection, ring recovery, hot-plugging, Unified Communication Channel connectivity and S/IP protocol support are tested and verified in different network configurations. This also helps improve the Sercos III specification, consequently limiting the scope of interpretation.
Participation in a plug fest is not a substitute for formal conformance testing, but it helps to ensure that a product can pass the formal test with a minimum of time and cost.
