Automata and SERCOS International e.V. Sign Cooperation Agreement

November 23, 2005 -- SERCOS International e.V. and Automata GmbH, specialist in industrial automation and communication technology, have agreed upon a strategic partnership, in which Automata acquired from SERCOS International e.V. the license to use the SERCOS III IP Core for its own products and customer-specific projects. Automata will assume the maintenance and the technical support of the IP Core, which represents the reference implementation for SERCOS III and which is used in the SERCON100 Master and Slave controllers.

The first products based on the SERCOS IP Core were presented at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2005 show in Nurenberg, Germany, November 22-24.

The SERCOS III IP Core contains all necessary hardware functions needed for SERCOS III, including timing, synchronization and the processing of cyclic and non-cyclic data, based on two integrated Ethernet MACs. The SERCOS III IP Core is used in the SERCON100 Master and Slave communication controllers based on the Spartan-3 FPGA platform, manufactured by Xilinx. In addition, the FPGA Core can be licensed by manufacturers to integrate the SERCOS functionality into their own FPGA's.

SERCOS International e.V. is a global user organization, responsible for the technical development, standardization, certification and commercialization of the SERCOS interface real time communication standard. The organization, with its headquarters in Stuttgart Germany, together with its subsidiaries, SERCOS North America and SERCOS Japan, presently has more than 60 member companies worldwide.

Automata GmbH, a member of the Cannon Group with more than 900 employees and worldwide headquarters in Ried, near Augsburg, Germany, specializes in machine automation. Since the early 1990s Automata has offered products and services for the SERCOS interface. The company’s close cooperation with well-known control, drive and I/O manufacturers has built the foundation for a multiplicity of highly successful hardware and software products.
