|SercosŪ Webinar in co-operation with Cisco -- Time-Sensitive Networking: an overview and working model -- Scheduled for November 7
TSN is being specified to provide Deterministic Ethernet capabilities to innovative networked control solutions that will provide internet connectivity and security while guaranteeing critical real-time communication on the same physical network infrastructure based on existing and upcoming IEEE 802.1 and IEEE 802.3 Time-Sensitive Networking standards.
This session will review some of the key updates that make up IEEE 802.1 TSN, including IEEE 802.1Qbv Enhancements for Scheduled Traffic and others. In addition, we will describe a system design that depicts how TSN would be implemented and operate, including:
- How streams will be requested
- How stream configurations (schedules) will be deployed in the network infrastructure
- The life of a TSN packet from device to device
The session will also look at some of the interoperability and certification work being done by Avnu on top of the IEEE TSN initiatives.
Paul Didier, Solution Architect - Industries Product Group at Cisco, will lead the webinar, scheduled for 16:00 CET (10 am EST) November 7. Read more and register »
Sercos to present Industry 4.0-capable demos during SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg, November 22 - 24, in hall 2, stand 440
Decentralized intelligence and autarkic behavior, open communication standards and fast connectivity for data exchange in real-time are the requirements for Industry 4.0. In the current motion controls and motion logic systems for hydraulics, Rexroth has moved numerous functions that were previously regulated on a purely hydromechanical basis into software, automatically compensating for the particularities of the fluid technology. The decentralized controls execute their tasks autonomously and communicate with superordinate PLCs via open communication interfaces. This is shown by a new hydraulics demo from Bosch Rexroth, which is making its premiere at the Sercos International stand.
In addition, a Sercos SoftMaster demo, plus additional demos and a large number of exhibits forming a cross section of the approximately 250 Sercos-capable products will be displayed. Read more »

Sercos Multi-Vendor Interoperabilty Demos
Two multi-vendor demos were shown in the Sercos booth at the recent IANA show in Chicago.
Sercos multi-vendor demo #1 includes 16 Sercos products from 10 manufacturers. Multi-vendor demo #2 includes 23 products from 11 manufacturers. View a YouTube video about the demos.
PDF flyers describing both multi-vendor demos can be downloaded at sercos.org/downloads/brochures.
Multi-vendor Demo 2 is pictured, with a pile of cut Ethernet cables. Sercos real-time redundancy in action was shown by cutting a Sercos Ethernet cable (and later restoring the connection). Visitors saw how the system detects the interruption/restoration within one cycle, indicates it on the screen, switches modes, and continues to operate.
