Sercos I and II were standardized by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) in 1995 as IEC61491. However, that standard was replaced in 2007 when IEC standardized a number of Real-time Ethernet busses. There are currently several applicable IEC standards for both Sercos I/II and Sercos III.
Note that international standards organizations by their nature take quite a bit of time to approve and update standards. You can obtain
specifications from the SERCOS member organizations that are usually more up to date than the official standards. (This is true for competing technologies as well.) These
specifications are prepared by the SERCOS Technical Working Groups and are the documents upon which any future editions of the IEC standard will be based.
The IEC standards applicable to Sercos are:
- IEC Standard IEC 61800-7 Ed 1.0 -- (SERCOS Drive Profile)
- IEC Standard IEC 61784-1 Ed 2.0 and IEC 61158 Standards --
(Fieldbus Profiles, SERCOS I/II)
- IEC Standard IEC 61784-2 Ed 1.0 and IEC 61158 Standards – (Real-Time Ethernet Profiles, SERCOS III)
- IEC Standard IEC 61784-3 Ed 1.0 -- (Safety buses, CIP Safety)
You can order the standards by email using a credit card. Be sure to request the documents by number. The standards generally won’t be found in a search for terminology "Sercos" or "Sercos interface."
